Your teeth, gums, and smile deserve a top-notch oral hygiene routine. Now, you probably already brush, floss, and rinse, but did you know there are little things you can do to improve your routine? Well, it’s true, and we call these things the oral hygiene secrets. Our dentist, Dr. John McAllister, wants you to have that effective routine, so he is happy to share those secrets with you!

The first secret is to brush your teeth enough. Many people fail to brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. So, do your best to brush when you wake up and right before bed and time your brushing routine by setting a timer, turning on a two-minute YouTube video, or playing a short song.

The second secret is to keep your toothbrush clean. Don’t do this by placing a toothbrush cover over the bristles when they are wet. This can create a moist environment for bacteria to grow and multiply. It’s best to thoroughly rinse the bristles after using the brush and then place the brush upright in a place where it can air dry. You can use the cover when the bristles are dry.

The third secret is to look for the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. This logo proves that the tool is safe and effective for use in an oral hygiene routine. This means the tool won’t harm your smile when you use it. So, please keep an eye out for this logo when you’re at the store buying oral hygiene tools.
