Many things can fracture your teeth, from an impact in sports to simply grinding your teeth too much or too hard.If the fracture is too deep, it could compromise the tooth’s health.

To restore a tooth in a situation like this, our dentist will often recommend replacing all of the tooth enamel with a dental crown made from either porcelain, gold or base metal alloys.

Your dentist will start the treatment by forming an abutment out of the core of the tooth. Your dentist will do this by removing all of the tooth enamel with a drill. This post-like structure that contains the dentin, pulp, and core of the tooth will anchor the crown in place.

Dr. John McAllister will then make a detailed impression of the area. This will be sent to the dental lab where your new crown will be custom made. A temporary crown will then be secured over the abutment to keep it safe while you await the completion of your crown.

Once the dental lab technician has finished your new crown, our dental team will call you in for a brief follow-up appointment. During this visit, the temporary crown will be removed and your new crown will be cemented into place.

If you have one or more teeth that are suffering from fractures, you should call McAllister Dentistry at 828-322-6731 to have them examined, treated and repaired. We are happy to see if a dental crown in Hickory, North Carolina, is right for you!
